DuPont, Pierce County
In DuPont we price dryer vent cleaning between $105 and $260. The cheapest jobs are ground-floor laundries that vent through the closest wall. A vent that leaves through the roof, serves a second-floor laundry room, or turns out to hold a bird's nest near the exit costs more. We clean the whole path, from the back of the machine to the flap outside, and measure the airflow before and after.

In a lot of the houses we visit in DuPont's planned neighborhoods, the laundry sits upstairs near the bedrooms or in an interior room well away from an outside wall. That is convenient for the household but makes the dryer duct longer, with more bends through joists and walls before it finds daylight. Every extra foot and every elbow slows the air, and slower air drops more lint inside the duct. Some of these runs exit through the roof, where the hood is hard to see and harder to reach.
Half of DuPont's homes were built in 2002 or later, per Census estimates, and floor plans of that era can place the laundry well inside the house. That makes the length of the dryer duct the main thing to check.
The 2021 Washington residential code caps a 4-inch smooth metal dryer duct at 35 feet, and each 90-degree elbow takes 5 feet off that allowance while each 45-degree elbow takes 2.5. The exhaust must end outdoors behind a backdraft damper, keeping 3 feet clear of doors, windows and other openings, and the listed flexible transition piece between machine and wall is limited to 8 feet and must stay in view, never concealed.
Every dryer vent cleaning we do in DuPont includes:
Smoke coming back into the room, or a smell that won't go? Book the inspection first.
Book nowThe complaints we hear are consistent: towels that need two cycles, a laundry room that feels hot and humid, a dryer that stops mid-cycle with an overheating error, or a burning smell when it runs. Outside, a vent flap that barely opens while the dryer is on is a strong clue. In the rainy months, when a lot more laundry goes through the dryer instead of onto a line, a partial blockage shows up quickly.
We take a reading at the outside exit with the dryer running, so the improvement can be checked at the end.
We slide the dryer out, take off the transition hose and check the duct opening for crushing or loose joints.
Rotary brushes and air work through the duct in both directions, and the outdoor hood or roof cap is cleared by hand.
Everything is reattached, the airflow is measured again, and you get photos of what came out and of any section that needs repair.

WeatherSpark's DuPont data show rain lasting about 6.8 months, early October into May, with November the rainiest month. Laundry that might dry on a line in July goes into the machine for most of the year.
Heavier use means faster lint buildup, and the risk is real. Nationally, USFA counts roughly 2,900 home fires a year that start in clothes dryers, names failure to clean as the leading factor at 34 percent, and notes that these fires peak in January, right in DuPont's damp season.
DuPont is a former company town built around an explosives plant, joined since 1989 by the planned Northwest Landing, with mostly recent homes — a median build year of 2002 — around a historic company village. We work every part of it — the Historic Village, Northwest Landing included.

It costs $105 to $260. Ground-floor laundries with a short wall exit are near $105; long runs, second-floor laundries, roof exits or nests bring it closer to $260.
A yearly cleaning works for the typical DuPont household. Big families, pets that shed, or a long duct run may need it more often, and the airflow reading tells us which applies.
No. A mesh over the exit catches lint and clogs, which is why the state code rules one out at the termination. The backdraft damper is what keeps birds and pests out.
