DuPont, Pierce County
A gas fireplace service in DuPont costs $189 to $475. The lower figure is a straightforward annual tune-up of a unit that lights and runs normally; the higher one reflects a unit with a fault to trace, a vent run to open up, or parts to order and fit. Because gas is the main heat in a majority of DuPont homes, this is the fireplace work we are asked for most often in town.

Most DuPont gas fireplaces are sealed direct-vent units, closed off by a fixed pane of glass. It pulls combustion air from outside and sends exhaust out through a concentric pipe, often straight through an exterior wall or up a short chase. These are well-designed appliances, but they depend on small parts in good order: a clean pilot assembly, a thermocouple or thermopile that still produces enough voltage, logs placed where the manufacturer intended, and gaskets that keep the firebox sealed from the room.
The ACS 2020–2024 estimates record utility gas as the primary heating fuel in about 54 percent of DuPont households, a much larger share than the roughly 34 percent seen across Pierce County as a whole. With a median home built in 2002, many of those houses were delivered with a direct-vent gas fireplace already in place.
The rules for gas appliances are set to change. The Washington State Building Code Council's schedule gives May 3, 2027 as the implementation date for the 2024 fuel gas, mechanical and residential codes. Routine service is unaffected, but any replacement after that date will follow the newer editions.
Every gas fireplace service we do in DuPont includes:
Smoke coming back into the room, or a smell that won't go? Book the inspection first.
Book nowMost calls follow the first cold spell of the fall. The pilot will not stay lit, the flame burns tall and yellow instead of blue, the glass is hazed white, or the unit makes a rumbling noise it did not make last year. Another common one in DuPont's newer neighborhoods is a wall termination partly blocked by shrubs that have grown up around it since the house was built. Each has a specific cause we can find and fix.
Puget Sound Clean Air Agency's burn bans target solid fuel. At Stage 1, open wood fireplaces go dark along with any stove or insert lacking certification. Stage 2 widens the ban to certified wood appliances and pellet units as well. Neither stage names gas fireplaces.
That makes a working gas unit the one fire many DuPont households can keep using on poor-air winter days. The agency posts current ban status on its website, on a phone line at 800-595-4341 and through email alerts, so it is easy to check before lighting any wood.
We read the rating plate so any adjustments and parts follow the manufacturer's specifications for that unit.
Gas is turned off at the valve, the glass front is removed, and the logs are lifted out to reach the burner and pilot.
Burner ports and pilot are cleaned, the safety circuit is tested, and the flame is checked once everything is back in place.
We look at the exterior termination for blockages, damage and clearance, then give you a written summary with photos.

Between $189 and $475. A routine tune-up of a working unit stays near $189; troubleshooting, vent work or parts push the price toward $475, and we confirm before going further.
A light white film is normal combustion residue and cleans off with the right product. Heavy or dark buildup can mean the logs are out of position or the burner needs adjusting.
We service the common direct-vent and B-vent units found in DuPont homes. We note the brand and model at the visit, and if a part must be ordered, we tell you before scheduling the return trip.
